Otjiwarongo Junior Tournament -- September 2004

From the 16 player squad the following 7 players were selected to go on the trip: Placido Gertze, Timo Absolum, Eltin Araeb, Mary Aribes, Leopard Mathias, Joel Isak and Lorenzo Pitt. A combi, partly sponsored by the Coastal Tennis Sub union of the NTA, took these players together with six players from the Swakopmund Tennis Academy to Otjiwarongo under the watchful eye of Barvely.

All the players stayed in the residence of a local school with all meals included. The only exception was for supper Saturday, when they went out for a meal. Not only did the players had a great time going out for a meal and swimming in the pool, but with such great results, they thoroughly deserved it. A total of 5 medals, 2 gold and 3 silver were secured.:

  • Gold medals for Lorenzo Pitt and Elton Araeb winning the Boys u/10 Doubles.
  • A silver medal for Elton Araeb in the u/10 Boys singles competition.
  • Silver medals for Leopard Mathias and Joel Isak in the Boys u/10 Doubles.

In the back draw sections of the u/10 Boys and Girls singles, Leopard Mathias and Mary Aribes won respectively. Due to the good results and in order to enable the players to practice in their free time, it was decided to sponsor 10 of the more committed players with graphite racquets. However, a drop in attendance will mean that the racquet must be returned. These racquets were obtained from the ITF Development Fund via the Namibian Tennis Association's development section.
