Namibian Tennis Association Junior Tournament -- August 2004
From the 75 talented players that was identified for the school teams in the
beginning of the year a special squad of 16 was picked. With the help of a local
parent, Mrs. Ushi Fahrbach, these players get picked up every Friday in Mondesa
and taken for some more extra coaching lessons with Alta.
At the end of August nine players from the squad were regarded as ready for
entering an official Junior Tournament of the Namibian Tennis Association in
Swakopmund. This meant no more mini-tennis, but full court matches with proper
score keeping and proper serving. As a result extra time was also spend
regarding all the rules and regulations that apply during such a tournament, not
to mention court etiquette.
Although most of the players lost in the first or second round, they were
entered in the back draw and played a lot of matches. They had a very good time
and gained a lot of experience. Elton Araeb lost in the semi-final of the back
draw for the boys u/10. Placido Gertze and Timo Absolom both won their first
round matches in the boys u/12 section.
