Windhoek Tennis Tournament -- 26 June 2004

First, a recap of the tournament from Alta Myburgh:

We took 8 teams to Windhoek:

  • 1 x u/10 team for Festus Gonteb Primary School (4 boys/4 girls)

  • 1 x u/10 team for Hanganeni Primary School (4 boys/4 girls)

  • 2 x u/10 teams for Tamariskia Primary School (4 boys/4 girls)x2

  • 2 x u/10 teams for Vrede Rede Primary School (as above)

  • 1 x u/8 team for Festus Gonteb Primary School

  • 1 x u/8 team for Atlantic Primary School

We got sponsorship from the following organizations and businesses in town:

  • Okanona Child Care Project

  • Geo-Logic Solutions - Earth Science Consultants

  • Woermann and Brock Supermarkets and Hardware Supplies

The results of the tournament:

10 teams participated with 5 from the MYO project. The other 5 schools have been part of this Mini Tennis program for the last 4 years, while our schools have only had 4 months of training.

Against the tournament winners our teams Vrede Rede, Tamariskia and Hanganeni lost 35/85, 24/81 and 37/81 respectively. This is very good, because these teams have lots of experience and their u/10 players has been in the program since they started 3-4 years ago as u/8.
